Life Modelling

I am interested in the connection and dynamic between model and artists in a life drawing session, in terms of space, sound and roles/social constraints and see life drawing as a performative act.

The drawing studio, or life drawing room, presents a rare opportunity to focus on and consider a stranger’s naked body, its vulnerability, muscle tension and breathing, and I enjoy the opportunity to provide a prompt for creative responses to this.

Much of my work with masks and has been further developed through online sessions and provided prompts for artists and particpants to respond differently to an abstract, or anonymous character.

I have recently tested currently many of these aspects in the ‘Life Supports’ project in collaboration with life model and photographer Fra Beecher.

I enjoy working with all both professional or amateur, and have modelled for organisations including Artsmill Hebden Bridge; MAKE Liverpool, On Edge Ilkley, Thomas Rotherham College (at ROAR), North Halifax Grammar School and Spirited Bodies, and online for United Models (Bristol), Niceflaps (The Netherlands), Kafka Life Drawing (Belgium) and London Drawing.
